Hello everyone! I was just browsing the TotallyADD website and had a good laugh or two. Sometimes we have to laugh at ourselves or we get far too serious – especially about ADHD. Take some time when you need a lighter moment and check out the videos about “Labels”. Perhaps you’ll come away with a different perspective or feel validated about your feelings on this topic. Enjoy!

November 2 Adult Support Group Meeting

This meeting is a round table session for airing concerns, sharing problems, listening and offering solutions. We support and sometimes just laugh! See attached poster.

November 7 Dr. Russell Barkley full-day workshop

Dr. Russell Barkley, internationally recognized as an expert in ADHD, is sponsored by LDA, to conduct a day-long workshop. You will want to hear this passionate and articulate advocate for ADHD. Check their website for further information on location and costs to see him LIVE!: www.LDAlberta.ca.

CHADD Edmonton has also booked a Smart classroom on campus to host the videoconference of Dr. Barkley’s workshop simultaneously. If you are interested in participating at a reduced cost please email us and we’ll send you the information.

Core Social Skills Training

Corinne Eckert, Registered Psychologist, is offering three levels of social skills sessions for various age groups. Please see the attached information and registration form if you are interested in having your child participate.

Fall Sibshops

These workshops will provide opportunities for brothers and sisters of children with special health, mental health and developmental needs to obtain peer support and education within a recreational context. They intersperse information and discussion activities with new games (designed to be unique, off beat and appealing to a wide ability range), cooking activities art and recreational activities and special guests. Check the attachment for dates, times and locations.

Health Professionals List

If you are looking for a health professional who can diagnose and treat ADHD (child/youth or adult) let us know and we’ll send our most current list to you. If you have a family doctor, pediatrician, psychiatrist or psychologist who has provided excellent service to you or your family, please ask him/her whether you can send us contact information to include in our list.

Education

Attached is an informative article from Attention Research Update: Concerns About Stigma Undermine Adolescents’ Treatment for ADHD. Determining your adolescent’s perspective needs to be taken into account and addressed before treatment.
